Getting more teachers in Idaho. The State of Idaho is launching a new way to get more teachers into the classroom: apprenticeship. Previously, K-12 teachers had to have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. But with a gap of more than 600 teaching jobs, the Idaho State Board of Education decided to try a new approach. So far, five Idaho school districts and charters have signed on: Castleford, Dietrich, Hansen, Middleton, Richfield, Hayden Canyon Charter, Heritage Academy Charter, and the Pocatello Community Charter.
The Jerome school district board has made a choice for the next superintendent. Brent Johnson will begin his duties on July 1st. He comes to the district from Wausau Wisconsin where he served as Principal since 2018. He will replace Dr. Patrick Charlton who said his last day in June3 30th.
Today is day one for Idaho Gives. The annual giving event features 644 Idaho non-profits from every sector and corner of the state. The yearly event tries to add a little fun to charitable giving with events, donation matches, and even prizes. Anyone who donates to a charity for the first time is entered to win a roundtrip ticket on Alaska Airlines.
One man is dead following an accident Saturday evening. Police say it happened on old highway 30 near 2450 east in Cassia County. An ATV side by side struck a cow, left the roadway and overturned. The passenger died at the scene. The driver airlifted for treatment.
The U.S. Department of Energy announced that it has selected a project owned by LS Power, to enter into capacity contract negotiations. The project is a $1+ billion, 285-mile, 500-kV transmission line that will connect the Midpoint substation near Twin Falls with the Robinson Summit substation near Ely, Nevada.
A Las Vegas murder suspect was apprehended in north Idaho on Saturday. Police say 16-year-old male had been shot and killed in Las Vegas earlier this month and three suspects had been identified. Two suspects had been arrested, but the third, 18-year-old Lennix M. Dockery, fled. He was located at a home in Rathdrum.
