Governor Brad Little and Lt. Governor Scott Bedke told the Biden Harris administration to back off of Idaho’s Groundwater.  Earlier some in the administration requested data on the state’s groundwater.  The governor responded saying that management of water is a state issue and that the federal government is not welcome to make decisions about this resource.

 

Idaho gas prices resumed their slow descent this week.  According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular dropped to $3.54, which is 3.5 cents cheaper than a week ago and a month ago, and 60 cents less than a year ago.  The national average currently sits at $3.21 per gallon, which is the same as a week ago, but 16 cents less than a month ago and 64 cents less than a year ago.

 

The state board of education is reminding rural schools that they can apply for grants through the Rural/Underserved educator incentive program and the Rural Arts Grants.  The state’s legislature sent aside a quarter million dollars for these grants and schools can receive up to $3,500 per project.

 

The Veterans service office in Jerome is officially closed.  The county commissioners told the service officer Scott Denning he was being let go from the county’s employment.  Now, Denning is concerned for the 155 veterans and two wards of the Guardian Program that the county is responsible for.  A third-party study suggested that the vets could be better served in another county.

 

Bryan Kohberger facing charges of killing 4 U of I students has requested he be allowed to wear street clothes in public hearings.  The motion before the court said this is in part due to the amount of media coverage this case has generated.  The defense said that they are of aware of at least 900 media stories regarding the defendant. 

 

Another scam has hit the state.  This time it’s over Jury duty summons.  Scammers are calling residents pretending to be law enforcement demanding they pay a fine to resolve a warrant for failing to appear.  Residents are reminded to not provide any info and contact the courthouse to verify the information. 

 

SPORTS

 

Officials from FOX Sports and the Mountain West announced that the Oct. 5 football game between Boise State and Utah State will air on FS2. The game, which has been sold out for a week, will kick off at kick off at 5 p.m. MT.  No. 25 Boise State returned to the AP Top 25 rankings after a dominating 56-14 win over Portland State in front of a home opening crowd of 36,972, the fourth-largest crowd in Albertsons Stadium history. Another packed house is expected Saturday as the Broncos host Washington State in a game that sold out last week.

 

Kaylin Johnson was four-under 68 and Emma Heyman was three-under 69 to lead Idaho to and even-par 288 Monday, to close out the tournament in a tie for a seventh-place finish at the Eagle Invitational at Circling Raven in Worley.  The Vandals finished day one in eighth place but rallied behind Johnson and Heyman to move into a tie for seventh and finished just four strokes out of fourth place. Idaho's even-par round was the fourth-best round of the weekend for any team.

 

From the local high school scoreboard, first for boys’ soccer, Kimberly took the win over Declo 2 to 0.  It was Wendell 5 Filer 1. 

 

For the girls, Buhl dominated the game over Bliss with a score of 4 to 0.  It was Kimberly 9 Declo 2.  Wendell outlasted Filer 6 to 2. 

 

For volleyball action, Pocatello downed Wood River 3 to 2.  Glenns Ferry defeated Lighthouse Christian 3 to 1.  It was Butte County 3 Oakley 0 and Murtaugh Shutout Rimrock 3 to 0.  Valley shut out Wendell 3 to 0.  Wood River took the win from Jerome 3 to 0. 

 

On the schedule for today for high school sports, first soccer for the boys, Wood River travels to Burley, Minico goes to Mountain Home.  Jerome travels to Twin Falls.  For the girls, Mountain home goes to Minico.  Twin Falls travels to Jerome.  Burley travels to Wood River.

On the Volleyball schedule, Twin Falls travels to Minico.  Rigby goes to Canyon Ridge.  Gooding is on the bus to play Wendell; Mountain Home will travel to Burley.
