Spencer Danielson has been named the head coach of Boise State football, director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Sunday, subject to approval by the Idaho State Board of Education. Danielson becomes the 12th head coach in Boise State's history as a four-year institution.
Overcoming all odds, Boise State capped off an improbable season by winning a record fifth Mountain West Championship with a 44-20 trouncing of UNLV at Allegiant Stadium Saturday afternoon. A Mountain West Championship record crowd of over 31 thousand witnessed history from start to finish with the Broncos running for more yards than UNLV registered in total, winning a league-best fourth championship game and fifth overall title. Spencer Danielson became the first interim head coach in FBS history to win a conference championship game.
The Idaho vandals are moving ahead in the FCS Quarterfinals following a 20 to 17 overtime win defeating the Southern Illinois Salukis in the second round of the playoffs. The Vandals offense didn’t get on the board until 4:17 remaining in the fourth quarter on a one-yard rushing touchdown by halfback Anthony Woods to tie the game at 17.
The ladies of the College of Southern Idaho led early but couldn't hold on, losing to Western Nebraska Saturday 82 to 77 in the WNCC Tournament. CSI next travels to Western Wyoming for a non-conference game Tuesday at 5 p.m.
In other college basketball for the Men, Boise State took the win over St. Marys 63 to 60. The Idaho Vandals overpowered Cal Poly 85 to 70 and the Idaho State Bengals overpowered the Lindenwood Lions 72 to 68. For the women, it was as close as you could get with the Idaho Vandals who lost to Texas A and M with a score of 72 to 71.
In local high school varsity games from over the weekend, on Saturday the Gooding Senators girls basketball took a loss with the South Fremont Cougars 61-37. Jerome defeated Ridgeview 59 to 52. Malad outlasted Declo 55 to 51. Emmett took the win over Canyon Ridge 62 to 43. Rockland took the win over Wood River 51 to 27. Murtaugh defeated Hansen 53 to 33. Pocatello outlasted Minico 51 to 48. Declo took the win over West Jefferson 53 to 43.
The boys from Canyon Ridge lost their first game of the season 66-48 to Preston. Mountain Crest Utah outlasted Twin Falls 52 to 42. Ridgeline defeated Mountain Home 74 to 31 and Victory Charter said no to Dietrich 74 to 72.
On Friday, the Valley Vikings boys defeated Raft River 45 to 38. Elsewhere Lighthouse Christian took the win over Hagerman 66 to 52. It was Buhl 38, Snake River 37. Dietrich took the win over North Gem 66 to 53. Shelly outlasted Minico 52 to 48. Declo downed Gooding 56 to 41. Hansen outlasted Shoshone3 64 to 24. Skyline defeated Filer 69 to 58. Wood River defeated Carey 59 to 41. Soda Springs outlasted Jerome 58 to 40.
For the girls, South Fremont took the win over Filer 66 to 60. It was Mountain Home 52 over Kimberly 42. West Jefferson took the win over Wendell 63 to 33. Carey outlasted Wood River 28 to 24, Declo took the win over Ririe 46 to 32.
