The Idaho Supreme Court yesterday dismissed Attorney General Raúl Labrador’s challenge to Proposition 1, the ballot initiative that would create open primaries and ranked-choice voting if approved by voters Nov. 5.  The Open Primaries coalition said the opinion represents a big win for voters.  The AG’s office said they are considering their options.



State officials have not detected viable quagga mussels since resuming water sampling this spring.  Last September invasive, nonnative quagga mussel larvae in water samples were found that were taken from the Snake River near Shoshone Falls and Centennial Waterfront Park in Twin Falls.



In a surprise ruling before oral arguments were scheduled to take place, the Idaho Supreme Court yesterday ruled unanimously against the state transportation department and in favor of legislators who thought the deal to sell the old ITD building in Boise wasn’t good enough. The court’s ruling likely kills plans to convert the property into over 2,000 homes and about 150,000 square feet of commercial space.



A popular restaurant closed its doors yesterday.  A note on the door of the Golden Corral said the popular buffet was permanently closed.  One employee said about 70 employees was given zero notice about the closure.  Food was donated to the Valley House.  No reason by ownership was announced. 



The investigation by the Twin Falls Police continue after local hospital officials reported they were treating a man who had been shot.  It started with a large fight Friday.  When police arrived, many had left the scene in the 500 block of 2nd east.  Later they were sent to Liberty and 2nd avenue for a report of shots fired.  They located several shell casings in the roadway.  The victim was identified as 36 year old Christopher M Gonzalez.



The state transportation department said that Bob Barton and South Lincoln in Jerome is open once again.  Early this fall, crews will begin work on the eastbound off-ramp at the South Jerome Interchange, and Bob Barton Road will be used as a temporary off-ramp.
